Hi! I think the source for this one is incorrect. Can you fix? MGA73 (talk) 15:42, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MGA73: ✓ Done. --Lymantria (talk) 15:56, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect... As you might have noticed I made a temporary category at Category:Insectimages.org needing review for unreviewd images. --MGA73 (talk) 16:00, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed :). --Lymantria (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you also fix File:Mythimna unipuncta larva.jpg? --MGA73 (talk) 19:11, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MGA73: I'm afraid the source has been erased. I'll give it a look tomorrow and if indeed, it's to be deleted. --Lymantria (talk) 21:14, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Admin Lymantria,

I suppose you cannot tell the license for this image and pass it if can you? I decided to do nothing on this heavily used image. I found the uploader Tortie tude to be very good with image licenses...unless this is another case where an image was not reviewed in time sadly. Tortie tude left Commons in 2014. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:19, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed I did not succeed in finding the license for the image. --Lymantria (talk) 05:21, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Admin Lymantria,

Can you kindly review these 2 images from indiabiodiversity please below?

Thank You for your help, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:03, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: Thank You Admin Lymantria. indiabiodiversity.org has many freely licensed images (under 'i') but few people ever upload from this webpage sadly. Most users such as User:MPF or User:MGA73 don't even know it exists. PS: I just saw the "last" Canadian veterans VE day parade in the Netherlands on the 80th anniversary of World War Two on Canadian TV. Most of the surviving veterans on on wheelchairs although I saw one old Canadian WWII soldier walking slowly. I know there are 8,000 WWII Canadian veteran cemetaries in your country. If I was a Canadian soldier in 1945 and was ordered to liberate Holland, I would regard the order as a near "suicide mission" sadly since your country is so flat or waterlogged with no places to hide from the entrenched German occupiers. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:17, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lymantria @Leoboudv - thanks for including me on the ping! Correct, I didn't know about this site; I guess it isn't indexed by the regular search engines? I took a look at their Vanilla walkeriae page on Archive.org, and there are two old versions stored there from July 2014 and March 2016, but (like most older Archive.org captures) they don't show the images, so no additional information there. However, all the rest of the information on the page is CC-BY license, so it is likely the image is too; we can't prove it unfortunately. If the site is still actively administered, I think it is worth contacting them to see if they can locate the license for the photo; it would be good to get it restored here if possible - MPF (talk) 10:30, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Leoboudv: Certainly a site to be browsed and uploaded from. I uploaded two images from there: File:Lymantria marginata 1752322a.jpg and File:Lymantria marginata 1752322b.jpg. Can you review them? --Lymantria (talk) 12:03, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

2 images

[edit]

Dear Admin Lymantria or User:MPF,

If you can locate the license under "i" in the source picture, please kindly review these two photos below:

The first image is important because Commons has no other image of this species and neither does the wikipedia list here for Lanelater but it must exist. However, it has a large watermark on it. Such is life.

By the way, I find now that it is no accident that some indiabiodiversity.org images have no license. Just look at this set of images: https://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/225086 (no license) The license is blank...which means that the uploader here made sure his images are not usable on Commons. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:09, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! The first one (File:Lanelater cinereus 2021.jpg), its source page is cc-by on the 'i' license tag, but cc-by-nc-sa on the watermark! Since cc licenses are irrevocable, I'll take the cc-by as valid, and clone out the watermark - MPF (talk) 22:33, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Both File:Lanelater cinereus 2021.jpg and File:Tirumala septentrionis caterpillar 2016.jpg reviewed now; I also added their locations (the coordinates are in the panel on the right on the indiabiodiversity.org pages); these should always be added, too! - MPF (talk) 22:46, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Lymantria,

7 of the 9 images in the category above from forestimages were never reviewed and were missed by User:MGA73. They were not reviewed in time and have an NC license today. Personally I think they were free at upload by former Admin Rocket000 but cannot prove it. There are no other examples of this species on Forestimages. I suppose they have to be deleted then sadly. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:17, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I checked one of the images through insectimages, and found that in 2005 and in 2013 the image was not available under cc-by-3.0. I am afraid you are right. --Lymantria (talk) 10:02, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
