As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made more than 500 useful non-botlike edits, and to have been active in the last thirty days. Patrollers and License reviewers don't have to request this flag.
Hello @Jirka.h23, thank you for applying. I can see that you have 8 of your uploads deleted on 30th March 2025. Also you have removed those violation notices from your TP right before coming here saying cleaning up old. So a copyvio notice from 20 days ago is old and some threads from 9 years ago isn't? Although it's your TP and you are free to manage it the way you want till you do it per rules, I still would want you to tell us about it. Shaan SenguptaTalk16:07, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Shaan Sengupta, you mean the logos for the Czech Extraliga? Yes, I uploaded the logos of the Czech Extraliga teams, I didn't know that it wasn't allowed like this, because there are many of the same logos already uploaded in the category and no one deletes them, even though they have the exact same copyvio as was mine. Anyway, I admit that it was an unnecessary mistake, and it certainly has nothing to do with that I need to update older graphs and maps. Thanks for the reply. Best regards Jirka.h23 (talk) 06:38, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As it is written in the header, after several days (four), I should contact the administrator. So is it possible to grant this right to overwrite old images (maps, graphs) so that I can update them? My experience corresponds to this, I have been contributing here for over 15 years since 2010, and despite some mistakes (which I will try to avoid), I have uploaded many widely used images. Thanks for the answer, best regards Jirka.h23 (talk) 07:01, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can grant the flag temporarily, and after 3 months if no more issues, I can make it permanent (just please request at my talk page or here before that expires). Abzeronow (talk) 18:50, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Nikolai Twin thank you for applying. You have 193 edits as I type many of which are regarding captions. Would you like to tell us which "various older charts" you are referring to here. Some examples maybe. Shaan SenguptaTalk15:36, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Cca Raheem (talk) 04:36, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll write in English because I don't believe I'd able to convey this well enough in French. I have a concern that you may have issues with copyrights of logos, there are multiple copyright violation messages on your talk page from November. Abzeronow (talk) 18:34, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have read your post at the Village Pump/Zh and I recommend the 2nd option that User:RoyZuo gave you. MP3s are restricted because sound recordings are more complex than most other media when it comes to copyright. Abzeronow (talk) 17:54, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to be allowed to upload mp3 files, so as to be able to add a voice clip from this podcast (licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0) to John Eastman's Wikipedia infobox. PepsiStripMine (talk) 10:50, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We restrict mp3 files because there is usually more complications with those so we prefer to have experienced people upload those. Your tenure and your edit count are both relatively new. I'd recommend that you convert the files to .flac or .ogg/oga so you can upload a clip from the freely licensed podcast. Abzeronow (talk) 21:29, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to have the autopatrol right as it helps overwriting election maps so much easier due to retirements and the near 2026 election so much easier and as I extensively edit election related articles and had well over 3000 election related edits. Thank you. Coolxsearcher1414 (talk) 00:28, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Coolxsearcher1414, if you need this only for this reason then I would suggest that you can request it at COM:OWR. Also editing articles and uploading maps is a whole different thing. Your work here matters more for getting rights. Thank you. Shaan SenguptaTalk10:00, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I want to upload some media files like mp3, mp4, etc. but I don't have permission to upload them. Hope to give me permission, thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 碧水凌涛 (talk • contribs) 08:47, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @碧水凌涛, you just joined here. We normally like to see some good work and experience before granting some rights. Also MP3/4 comes with a lot of complications so we require good amount of experience. Shaan SenguptaTalk10:03, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What Shaan said, MP3s are complicated due to multiple copyrights. MP4s are not an allowed format yet (it may be added in a few years though.) For video, we use open formats like ogv and webm. Abzeronow (talk) 18:10, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mostly check for logos and other images to either overwrite to a higher-resolution version (mostly logos and other files that were uploaded as low-resolution because they were initially tagged as non-free) or optimize the image file (with tools like zopflipng or SVGO). Thanks. SergioFLS (talk) 22:56, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am creating new .svg files of COA and flags in Germany and would like to also be able to upload corrected linework and tinctures to already existing files. Especially in cases where the convention DEU_<City>_COA and DEU_<City>_Banner are already used but have wildly different colors while using the same svg coa it would be helpfull to not have to replace every mention of the file. Also cases where the flag uses an older version of the coa with some line errors, that are already corrected in the coa file. Would also reduce the amount of file corpses. Thank you. Just saw the pop up at the top with 500 edits. Yeah I do not have that many. Would be useful to have this right, but if it's only the edits, I can come back when I have 500. Was used to the 100 edit limit of other wikis, so assumed it was the same here. Erdnussflip007 (talk) 05:27, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The contrast on the two is a little different but is allowable. I'd rather you not upload images as pdf files though, jpg or tiff would be better formats for the team photographs of college football teams from the early 20th Century. Abzeronow (talk) 19:33, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've been uploading the original documents from the library sources, some of which are PDF. Subsequent crops can be done in jpg.
Still seeking this permission for a bunch UW library existing imported files on commons that now have better resolution versions from MOHAI. PK-WIKI (talk) 08:41, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting permission to be able to upload RFK assassination-related audio files. It came as a surprise today, but the National Archives released several hundred MP3 audio files (and a total of 60,000 documents) from the assassination. Ones like this. I tried to upload one, but it was detected as "unconstructive" and was denied. I have read all the needed policies, and I have interacted with a lot of the JFK assassination files as well (started adding those to Wikisource as well...File:JFK Assassination File 104-10012-10022.pdf is an example of one of those that I uploaded to the Commons). Not a newcomer (over 4,500 contributions on the Commons alone with over 32,000 on English Wikipedia), just needing the permission to continue doing what I have been doing. Thank you. WeatherWriter (talk) 00:14, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did see this request yesterday. 2024 has a lot of DR activity on your talk page, but that was from uploads that at the time were believed to be public domain photographs posted on NWS websites. And I do see the Kennedy-related files you've uploaded. I will probably grant, but I'll leave the request open a little bit longer. Abzeronow (talk) 23:52, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to have a posibility to download better quality versions of the documents about protected areas, downloaded by other users Thank you. Luda.slominska (talk) 14:20, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I recently tried to upload a new version of File:BSicon uexvBUE.svg as part of my work for WikiProject BSicon. It is a simple colour correction but I am unable to overwrite a file I did not create. Due to the file's use in a template with complex and meaningful naming conventions for icons it is important that the new version keeps the existing filename. It would be helpful to have the ability to update SVG files created by other uses with these types of changes. Thank you. -=# Amos E Wolfetalk #=- 07:53, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made at least 1,000 useful, non-botlike edits or a large amount of justified renaming requests at Commons before they will consider granting the filemover right.
